Building for a Stronger Tomorrow
A Campaign to Improve Our Facilities and Programming
Our Impact
The Athletic Center is known across Chicago as a place that brings together people by providing a safe environment for athletes of all ages. Over 800 youth participate in our volleyball and basketball leagues annually. The programs offered in our facility become a gateway for student athletes to connect with coaches and programs at various high schools. Additionally, our facility provides job training opportunities for high school students who use their experiences with us to build their resume and work in athletic programs in colleges and universities across the United States.
As we continue to live through the COVID-19 pandemic, the reopening of our Athletic Center serves as a sign of hope for our community. We have worked diligently to ensure we can provide a safe place for our student athletes to play in. We are also excited that we have opened the gym at 7740 S. Eberhart and provide more access for the residents of the Chatham community.
We have had strong youth sports programs for decades. We have been fortunate to partner with other organizations to provide adult basketball leagues and have been able to open our doors to adult teams looking for a space to play. We recognize that there is a growing need for senior citizens in our neighborhoods to also have access to a safe space for recreation and exercise classes. We look forward to offering pickleball, fitness classes, and other activities designed for the elders of our community at both of our locations. We want to ensure that the ministry of our Athletic Center impacts the lives of all of our neighbors.
Our Project
In the winter of 2020/2021, The Athletic Center was affected by water damage from ice damming on the roof. The walls and floor had substantial damage, and in preparing to address that damage some structural issues became apparent. Knowing The Athletic Center makes a positive impact in the life of youth and adults in Chicago, the time has come to make an investment in the building itself.
